German language skills as a ticket to German society

Learning the German language is a ticket to German culture – because people who have a command of the local language generally find integration in their host country easier. It is not a question of speaking and understanding German perfectly from the beginning: often, basic skills are enough to start with. Immigrants who have a command of the German language benefit in their private and professional lives in all kind of ways. It is a fact that more than two-thirds of all foreigners in Germany have at least advanced German skills. Sufficient language skills are of quite material assistance in solving everyday problems and finding a job. Although integration is about far more than just learning German, it is still the focal point of integration policy. Even migrants themselves regard the German language as the most essential prerequisite to feeling a part of the community.
