Debit card (EC card)
German: EC-Karte
In many places, the EC card is still referred to as such. However, "Girocard" has been the official term since 2007. It guarantees you access to two German debit card payment systems: chip-based payment deducts money from your account, and cash dispensing at ATMs in Germany. The cards are issued by credit institutions in conjunction with a current account (Girokonto).
