Brief newsletter: April 2025
Dear Readers,
Welcome to the new issue of the ‘Make it in Germany’ brief newsletter! This issue focuses on various ways in which international skilled workers are trained and migrate to Germany: in addition to skilled workers with foreign qualifications, international students and graduates from German universities also play a very important role. Another way is to complete a training programme abroad based on the "German model", for example at a chamber of commerce abroad. You will also find hand-picked offers from ‘Make it in Germany’ and partners, including webinars and specific placement offers.

We wish you an enjoyable read!

New content: State recognition in the country of training
Certain visas and residence permits require proof that a foreign qualification is recognised by the state in the country in which it was obtained (country of training). Our new page explains which types of proof apply to which qualifications – including the “Statement on a Foreign Vocational Qualification” (DAB) for non-academic qualifications. Find out more on "Make it in Germany" and get an overview!

International students are an asset for Germany
Many international students remain in Germany after completing their studies – and contribute significantly to the economy, as highlighted in a report by the German Economic Institute (IW) commissioned by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Just a few years after graduation, the state’s investment in their education pays off. Key factors for success are a welcoming culture and targeted support from universities, policymakers, and businesses – both during studies and at the transition into the labor market. Companies can contribute by offering internships and jobs to students, organizing information events at universities, and fairly considering individual qualifications such as language skills during the recruitment process.

Apprenticeship Programmes at the AHK
Vocational training “made in India” – according to German standards: The Indo-German- Chamber of Commerce (AHK) has successfully had its vocational training certificates for the occupations “Mechatronics Technician” and “Tool and Die Mechanic” officially confirmed by the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB). This means that the certificate can now be used as an official proof of qualification in the visa process– for example, when applying for the Job Seach Opportunity Card. Such BIBB-recognised training programmes (occupations may differ) are currently also available at the AHKs in Chile, São Paulo, Argentina, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka.
