How did you find a job in Germany?
I found my job in Germany through the “International Talents” project run by the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce. I found out about it on LinkedIn. The programme helped me with language courses and matched me with job opportunities. This helped me secure a job in Germany while I was still in India.
Can you give some advice on the job application process?
Yes. Prepare well for HR rounds. It is important to show that you are a good fit for the company culture and the team. And one more tip: be patient, as finding a job can take time. Keep applying and stay positive.
What advice would you give to someone looking for a place to live in Germany?
If you are moving to Germany from abroad for work, I recommend asking the HR department to contact landlords when you find a place online. If you have German friends, it is also a good idea to ask them for a reference or for help communicating with landlords.
How is working in Germany different from working in India?
The main difference is the work-life balance. In Germany, people value both personal time and working time. During working hours, the focus is solely on work, and personal time is respected. After work, people have the time and opportunity to pursue their hobbies and personal interests.
What cultural differences have you noticed in family life in India and Germany?
The first is that young adults in Germany often move out at 18 to live on their own, whereas in India, children usually stay with their parents until they get married. Another difference is that family activities in Germany are often planned and usually involve outdoor activities or trips. In India, families tend to spend more time together at home, especially over meals and during celebrations.
What do you think are the biggest perks of living and working in Germany?
I think the social security system is one of the greatest benefits. Germany has a stable social security system that includes health insurance, unemployment benefits and pension insurance, giving people a sense of security. Another benefit is that there is so much to experience in Germany, from outdoor activities such as hiking and cycling to cultural experiences such as museums, music festivals and historic sites.
