Opportunity card

German: Chancenkarte

The opportunity card is a residence title (Section 20a of the Residence Act [AufenthG]) for the purpose of searching for qualified employment or a qualification measure for recognition. When issued for the first time, it is issued as a search opportunity card (as opposed to an opportunity card extension) and allows the holder to stay in Germany for up to one year. The following applies to persons with a search opportunity card: once they have found a qualified job or qualification measure, they must apply for the appropriate residence permit at the foreigners authority. In individual cases, an "opportunity card extension" may be issued instead of a residence permit for taking up employment.
