Our Social Media Data Privacy Policy

1. Purposes of data processing:
We have our own sites on social media in order to present ourselves, to provide information, and to contact and communicate with our users.

2. Processing of personal data:
Data processing by social networks
We maintain publicly available profiles on the social networks listed below.

Social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. are generally able to extensively analyse your user behaviour when you visit their website or a website with integrated social media content (e.g. ‘like’ buttons and banner ads). Visiting our social media sites triggers numerous processing operations relevant to data protection. In detail, this implies the following aspects:

When you are logged into your social media account and visit our social media site, the operator of the social media portal can assign this visit to your user account. In certain circumstances, however, your personal data may be collected even if you are not logged in or do not have an account with the respective social media portal. In this case, data collection takes place, for example, by means of cookies that are stored on your device or by recording your IP address. Using the data collected in this way, the operators of social media portals can create user profiles in which your preferences and interests are stored. In this way, interest-based advertising can be displayed to you both on and outside the respective social media site. Interest-based advertising may be displayed on all devices on which you are or were logged in, provided you have an account with the respective social network.

Please also note that we cannot retrace all processing operations on the social media portals. Depending on the provider, further processing operations may therefore be carried out by the operators of the social media portals. Details can be found in the terms of use and privacy policy of the respective social media portals.

Legal basis
Our social media sites are designed to ensure the widest possible presence on the internet. This is a legitimate interest within the meaning of Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The analytics initiated by social networks may be based on different legal bases, which are to be specified by the social network operators (e.g. consent within the meaning of Article 6(1)(a) GDPR).

Controller and exercise of rights
If you visit one of our social media sites (e.g. Facebook), we are jointly responsible with the operator of the social media platform for the data processing operations triggered during this visit. In principle, you can exercise your rights (right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and complaint) against us and the operator of the respective social media portal (e.g. against Facebook).
Please note that despite the shared responsibility with the operators of the social media portals, we do not have complete control over the data processing operations of the social media portals. Our options are largely determined by the provider’s corporate policy.

Storage period
Data collected directly by us via the social media site will be deleted from our systems as soon as the purpose of storage no longer applies, you request erasure, or withdraw your consent to storage. Stored cookies remain on your device until you delete them. Mandatory statutory provisions – particularly retention periods – remain unaffected.

We have no control over the storage period of your data stored by the social network operators for their own purposes. For details, please refer directly to the social network operators (e.g. in their privacy policy, see below).
