Higher education institution

A higher education institution is an institution for scientific research and teaching that imparts theoretical and practical knowledge in a scientific form. Students can obtain academic degrees there by passing examinations.
The term ‘higher education institution’ is also used as an umbrella term for all institutions of tertiary education, i.e., universities, universities of applied sciences (also known as colleges of applied sciences), art and music colleges, teacher training colleges, theological colleges and other specialised institutions.
