**The foundation Max Planck Institute for Kohlenforschung in Mülheim an der Ruhr **is a renowned research institution that is over 100 years old and has already received two Nobel Prizes in its history. The institute is engaged in basic research in the field of catalysis with the aim of maximizing the efficient use of natural resources.

For the research area “Catalysis with MOFs and Nanoparticles” we are looking for a

PhD Student

in full-time (39 hours/week)

The Neumann group (https://www.kofo.mpg.de/de/forschung/heterogene-katalyse/neumann) focuses on the development of precise heterogeneous catalysts. For more information about the research project, please see our recently published work: https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/jacs.5c10989

Job description:

  • PhD position focused on the development of MOF-based catalysts for hydroformylation and cross-coupling reactions

Qualifications:

  • a Masters degree in chemistry and prior experience in organic chemistry or catalysis
  • a solid theoretical foundation in chemistry and catalysis
  • good English language and communication skills
  • dedication to learning new skills and an eagerness to explore the unknown
  • Ability to work in a team, a strong sense of responsibility and great social skills

  Job offer:

  • multi-faced training experience encompassing material synthesis, multi-technique characterization, and heterogeneous catalysis
  • Benefit from the institute’s excellent analytical departments and workshops that have expertise in a wide range of experimental techniques and can build custom equipment

  • The working language of the group is English, and no German language skills are required (but subsidized German courses are available)
