Work with us and we’ll welcome you into an inclusive culture, one that invests in your continuous learning and development, and gives you access to a wide breadth and depth of experience.

As the Head of Structural Mechanics at Rolls-Royce Electrical, leverage your profound aerospace engineering expertise and passion for innovation, guiding a pioneering team to groundbreaking solutions in aircraft propulsion, in an environment that champions sustainability, technical excellence, and visionary leadership.

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home or another remote location. It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What you will be doing

With this exciting opportunity you will get a chance to:

- lead a team of structural mechanics specialists aimed at pioneering electrical machines with the highest power density for aerospace applications, ensuring disciplinary leadership,
- act as the principal contact and expert for technical queries in the discipline, responsible for structural concepts’ evaluation, delivery, and design approval, including IP management,
- embrace solution-driven accountability in manufacturing and service design of structural mechanical solutions,
- foster technical excellence and people management, leading by example and supporting the personal and professional development of team members,
- coordinate and harmonize resource planning with all relevant stakeholders, integrating into an agile development environment,
- lay the groundwork for team development, through the creation of guiding materials, standardization, and securing funding opportunities,
- uphold and train the highest quality standards for team development and safe prototype and product delivery,
- exercise goal-oriented and visionary decision-making within an agile setup,
- identify and mitigate development and personnel planning risks proactively,
- negotiate optimal outcomes for Rolls-Royce Electrical, ensuring sustainable conflict resolution.

Who we’re looking for

At Rolls-Royce we embrace agility, are bold, pursue collaboration and seek simplicity in everything we do.  These principles form our values and behaviours and are an essential component of our assessment process and are fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.

To be successful in this role you will need to:

- hold a university degree in a technical discipline, preferably in mechanical or aerospace engineering,
- possess several years of practical experience in prototype and product development, alongside demonstrated leadership, team, and project management skills,
- have deep technical expertise in structural concepts, mechanical design, and structural mechanics calculations, including analysis, manufacturing, service, and verification of rotating machinery, especially in aircraft propulsion,
- show a strong foundation in qualification and certification of propulsion systems and components, with extensive experience in managing signature approvals for aviation authorities,
- ideally, have experience in designing electrical machines and understanding the synergy between electromagnetics, thermal design, and mechanics,
- demonstrate a high level of commitment to finding sustainable solutions, with a structured approach to work, a strong drive for implementation, and resilience,
- be driven by enthusiasm to develop innovative products and pioneer new paths with Rolls-Royce Electrical in the realm of aircraft propulsion,
- be proficient in English; German language skills are considered a valuable asset.
