The working groups Psychophysiology and Physiological genomics aim to elucidate the molecular and physiological underpinnings of adaptive processes in farm animals, with the broader goal of improving welfare without compromising efficiency.
What to expect:
You will join an international and interdisciplinary team, led at the FBN by Liza Moscovice (Psychophysiology) and Eduard Murani (Physiological genomics) working to understand biological pathways mediating helping behavior in a novel animal model. We have recently shown that domestic pigs can help conspecifics in need (https://doi.org/10.1098/rspb.2023.0665). In your PhD project you will investigate physiological markers and gene expression from central pathways involved in prosocial behavior. This project gives you the chance to learn from the top research groups in the field of animal welfare science and gain in-depth knowledge of multidisciplinary physiological and genomic approaches.
What to bring:
- University degree in biology, with a specialization in neuroscience, physiology, molecularbiology or a related field
- Basic knowledge of animal behaviour and animal physiology, high motivation to work with animals and to gain laboratory experience in genetics and/or physiology
- Knowledge of experimental design and statistical data analysis
- Ability to work in a team, commitment, creativity and initiative in carrying out tasks
- Good verbal and written knowledge of English. Proficiency in German would be a bonus
What we offer:
At FBN, you will be welcomed by a dedicated, multidisciplinary team. We will support you with a structured onboarding. We will also help you with any questions you may have regarding your arrival in the Rostock region. We also offer our employees
- an additional company pension (VBL),
- 30 days annual leave,
- flexible working hours and
- the possibility to work remotely.
The compatibility of work and family life is important to us at FBN, which is why we stand out for our certified family friendliness. Employees with children also find optimal working conditions thanks to our cooperation with the local kindergarten and parent-child rooms.
